While we’re still celebrating our Apprentices’ award success, our bees are preparing for their own quiet winter.
Although they seem safe and snug in their hotels, they need a little extra care to ensure they make it through the colder months.
To protect our bees from harsh weather and hungry predators, the first step in the overwintering process is relocating our Bee Hotel to a sheltered space, such as a garage or shed.
This keeps the environment dry, cold (but not freezing), and just right for our young bees.
In this video, you’ll notice how we’ve carefully turned the nesting cassette around to provide extra protection from birds who might see the hotel as an easy snack.
With a bit of attention now, we can ensure our next generation of bees emerge healthy come spring!
