In this video clip, we capture a rare glimpse of a female Red Mason bee delivering pollen to her final chamber, brushing off her cargo to ensure her offspring have an adequate food supply to survive the winter months.
Just like our Apprentices, this bee must use logical thinking and precise calculations whilst working.
Considerations like: –
▪ How much material (pollen/nectar) is needed?
▪ Is there a deadline?
▪ What risks arise if the job is left unsupervised?
And of course, all this is done with a high standard of skill.
Just look at the perfect circle she’s crafted within the mud partition – large enough for her to enter whilst still providing protection against bad weather and potential nest parasites.
