Episode 65
The Appprentice And The Bee
Something’s Not Quite Right

Just like our Apprentices – if something doesn’t feels right, it probably isn’t.

In this video, we see a female Red Mason bee returning to her nest, body dusted with pollen, ready to deliver a vital food source for her future young. But just as she’s about to enter… she hesitates. Why?

Solitary bees build intricate brood cells — natural masterpieces of engineering — to protect and nourish their developing larvae. The success of the next generation depends entirely on precision: from the construction of the cell to the amount of pollen placed inside.

Sometimes, a subtle environmental cue or unfamiliar scent can raise alarm bells, leading the bee to reconsider. It’s a fascinating display of instinct, observation, and problem-solving — something our Apprentices know all too well.

Whether it’s recognising a misaligned measurement, an unexpected variation in material, or a decision that just doesn’t sit right — trust, training, and a bit of trial and error help them build the confidence to stop, assess, and make it right.

After all, success – in construction or in nature – lies not just in action, but in attention to detail.
