Our Apprentice & Bee series reaches its final step today, as we prepare the last of our bee hotel residents for the months ahead.
In this video, our Apprentice carefully brushes the cocoons and surrounding mud onto newspaper, separating each one before giving them a gentle clean and bath.
Once dried, they’re stored safely for winter, protected from the parasites and predators that would otherwise threaten next season’s brood.
This routine is simple but vital.
Every cocoon holds a fully formed bee that emerged last year, developed silently, and is now waiting for the warmth and light of spring.
By cleaning and storing them, we give this new generation the best possible start when the flight season begins again.
It’s a process that echoes the journey of our Apprentices.
Skill grows through steady preparation. Progress is shaped by care, consistency and attention to detail.
And development – whether human or bee – is always stronger when the environment is secure and supportive.
