Episode 85
The Appprentice And The Bee
Finishing Detail by Instinct

In today’s post, our Apprentice takes a closer look inside one of our bee hotels after a full season of activity.

With the polycarbonate panels removed, the nesting cassette reveals neat rows of Red Mason bee cocoons — each one formed, partitioned and sealed with remarkable precision.

What stands out is the final touch: some flutes end with an empty “dummy” cell. This unused chamber is a natural finishing detail added by the female bee to protect her developing young from bird predation. No mentoring. No experience passed on. Just instinct — inherited, trusted and consistently effective.

It’s a striking reminder that thoughtful finishing details make all the difference, whether built through instinct or learned through training. It’s the same progression we see in our Apprentices, from early development to confident, skilled craftsmanship.

A new season of growth is on the horizon.
