In this stage of their journey, our 2nd Year Apprentices are tackling the intricate components of a flat roof dormer within their traditional pitched roof project – a challenging yet rewarding milestone in their 4-year Carpentry & Joinery coursework.
One key feature they’re mastering is the construction of ‘firring pieces’—tapered timber strips designed to create a subtle slope, ensuring effective rainwater drainage from the flat roof surface of the dormer roof.
Beyond this, they’ve also been tasked with assembling vital structural components to support the dormer roof and the proposed window, all while adhering to precise tolerances and specifications.
It’s a lot of problem-solving and attention to detail, but these experiences are shaping not only their technical skills but also their confidence to meet real-life challenges – just as our bees show patience and perseverance to craft their nests for their next generation.
We hope you enjoy The Apprentice and the Bee as we continue to support sustainable growth and succession, one step at a time!
