This Halloween, our Apprentices, now over 18, are eligible to work nightshifts when required.
To recharge, they must find a suitable environment for daytime rest – just like the Common Pipistrelle bats featured in this video.
These bats have found their ideal rest spot in a Blue Tit nest box.
Both our Apprentices and Pipistrelles are incredibly efficient during their respective night shifts.
While our Apprentices power through their tasks, the Pipistrelles are busy consuming thousands of tiny insects in a single night.
Interestingly, the sounds made by Common Pipistrelles (and some Apprentices) are often above the range of human hearing.
But just like our Apprentices and our Bees, Pipistrelle populations have seen a significant decline in recent decades – a reminder of the challenges all species face in their environments.
