The final stage of our Skills Test series takes us back to one of the most challenging aspects of Carpentry & Joinery … Roof Geometry.
As part of her final practical assessment, our apprentice was required to set out and construct a hip-end roof section, using a sliding bevel to transfer and control the required angles.
Before a roof can be built, it first must be understood.
▪ Measurements must be interpreted
▪ Angles must be visualised
▪ Each cut must relate accurately to the next
This is where practical ability and technical understanding come together.
It’s a reminder that skilled craft is about far more than working with timber.
It is about understanding the structure before it exists.
And after four years of Apprenticeship training, this assessment demonstrates just how far that journey has progressed.
